The first thing you should know about driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is that it might kill you or someone you love.
No Reason to Drive Under the Influence
There is no good reason to drive under the influence of anything. When your car is moving it is equal to the force of a missile; two tons of metal and flammable liquids that can easily kill.
Delayed Reaction
When you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol your reaction time is drastically slowed down. You simply cannot appreciate the dangers which are around you all the time.
Slower Reflexes
With slower reflexes you are less likely to get your foot on the brake in time to make a sudden stop. You might also fail to recognize the hazard that is right in front of you. Without your right frame of mind you will also be unable to properly evaluate what is going on around you. You might drive too slow or you might drive too fast. You might see the person who just stepped off the curb in front of you, or you might not.
Poor Judgment
When you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs your judgment is impaired. You can hardly be expected to make good decisions behind the wheel.
Some drivers think just because they have only had couple drinks they are still safe to drive. That is simply not the case. In fact, in most states you do not even need to be legally drunk to be arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. And since it is impossible to even know whether you are intoxicated or not it is always best to not even take a chance.
.08
In most states the blood alcohol content level for intoxication is .08 percent. Driving at or above this level will get you busted for driving under the influence, DUI. In fact, you do not even need to be under the influence, just impaired by your consumption of alcohol will do the trick. Your impairment is at the discretion of the officer that pulls you over.
Driving under the influence is not strictly limited to driving a car. If you are under the influence of alcohol while you attempt to operate any motor vehicle, whether it is a motorcycle, snowmobile, go cart or boat, you are still liable for a driving under the influence charge. Because officers understand the risks you take when you get behind the wheel intoxicated they do not mess around. They would rather pull you off the road, cite you and take you to jail rather than let you drive away and hurt yourself or someone else because your judgement is impaired.
Why Take the Risk
If you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol it is always the best idea to not take a risk at all. Call a cab or get your friend to drive instead.
